About the Team

Dance classes winnipeg competitive team

Maples Academy of Dance's Performance Team represents M.A.D. at various competitions and community performances throughout the dance year.  In the past, members have attended Thunderstruck Dance Competition, Canadian National Dance Championships (CNDC), Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival, VIEW Dance Challenge, the Santa Claus Parade, and the Red River Ex.

Dancers on the Team put in countless extra hours to prepare for performances and to be able to represent themselves and the M.A.D. team to the best of their ability, both on and off stage.

The Performance Team is divided into two divisions: Novice and Elite. In each division, dancers are divided into age groups: Mini, Junior, and Teen.

Goals of the Performance Team

To identify dancers, who are developing at a higher, more elite level, and give them performance and competitive opportunities beyond the normal scope of a recreational dance program and to provide dancers with more challenging technical training and choreography, at a more intense level of dance.

To train the dancers as a whole, not just to be strong dancers, but also be confident and healthy people, who represent themselves and their team with pride, respect, and positivity.

Selection Criteria

Dancers are invited to the Performance Team based on a number of criteria including in class testing scores or by instructor recommendation and Director’s evaluation.  Dancers selected to the Performance Team are also expected to have a strong work ethic, excellent attendance and preparation for class, and a positive, team driven attitude.

All performance team selections are finalized by the Directors, and invitation letters for the Performance Team go out during the third week of November.
