SUPERSTAR DANCE CLASSES
Exceptional Training, Tailored for Every Superstar
At Maples Academy of Dance, we believe great dancers are built on a foundation of confidence and character. Our Winnipeg dance programs follow an exclusive, custom-designed syllabus created by our Directors to ensure every student—from beginner to advanced—thrives both on and off the floor. Classes run from September to June unless otherwise noted, and culminate with performances at our annual dance recital, SHINE.
We don’t just teach choreography; we mentor the person behind the performer. We can't wait to see you in the studio!
DANCE STYLES
BALLET - A formal, technical dance style, often performed to classical music. Ballet tells a story, expresses a mood, and reflects a piece of movement.
CONTEMPORARY-LYRICAL -A fusion of ballet, jazz, and modern elements to tell a story matching the chosen music.
MUSICAL THEATRE - The ultimate triple threat class combining singing, acting, and dancing for a theatrical dance performance.
HIP HOP - A street dance style performed to hop hop music. Includes styles like popping, locking, house, and breaking.
TAP - Using the sounds of metal tap shoes dancers create a percussive rhythm with their feet.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT - Our Creative movement combo class is for dancers age 2-6 to learn fundamental dance moves in ballet, tap and jazz.
Levels: Tiny Tiptoes age 2-3, Future Stars age 4-6
JAZZ - A modern style of dance, with emphasis on jumping and turning skills and technique. Often performed to upbeat music.
POINTE - An advanced ballet style where dancers support all their body weight on the tips of their extended feet using special pointe shoes.
ACRO - Incorporates acrobatic elements like inversions, balances, power and flight tricks. Acro is available through private lesson upon request. Please contact the studio for more information.
CLASS LEVELS
Our Superstar programs are designed to teach the foundations of dance in a fun and specialized dance environment. Dancers are broken down into groups by age to foster age-appropriate learning with their peers.
Tiny Tiptoes - Age 2-3
Future Stars - Age 4-6
Pre-Junior - Age 6-7
Junnior - Age 7-11
Intermediate - Age 11-14
Senior - Age 14+
ELITE COMPETITIVE DANCE PROGRAM
Our Elite Superstar Classes are invitational, competitive dances classes geared toward performance on the elite competitive stage. Elite classes run once per week from November to May. Dancers registered for the Elite Superstar program are required to commit to participating in competitions and must also take their regular Superstar Classes concurrently. We offer elite dance programs in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Acro, and Pointe. Elite fees include all choreography fees, competition registration fees, and applicable taxes build into the price.

DRESS CODE
Our dress code is designed to ensure dancers can participate safely and comfortably in class, and to allow teachers to better observe their dancers, ensuring they provide the necessary corrections and tips for proper progression and injury prevention. Dancers should be attending class in clean dancewear as per the dress code, as well as with hair pulled securely back. Our dress code is as follows:
General
Hair must be securely pulled back in a pony tail or bun for all classes - dancers in ballet should have their hair in a bun for class. No jewelry to be worn in class. No jeans.
Future Stars
Girls: Bodysuit and ballet tights, Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes
Boys: Dance pants or shorts and t-shirt, black ballet shoes, black tap shoes
Ballet
Girls: Bodysuit and ballet tights, Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional, pink ballet shoes
Boys: Dance pants or shorts and t-shirt, black ballet shoes
Tap
Girls: Bodysuit or fitted dance top, dance pants, tights or shorts, black tap shoes
Boys: Dance pants or shorts and t-shirt, black tap shoes
Jazz
Girls: Bodysuit or fitted dance top, dance pants, tights or shorts, black jazz shoes
Boys: Shorts or dance pants and t-shirt, black jazz shoes
Hip Hop
Indoor runners, dance pants, shorts or sweats, t-shirt or tank top

Lyrical
Girls: Bodysuit or fitted dance top, dance pants, tights or shorts, beige half-sole lyrical shoes
Boys: Dance pants or shorts and t-shirt, bare feet
Musical Theatre
Girls: Bodysuit or fitted dance top, dance pants, tights or shorts, black jazz shoes
Boys: Shorts or dance pants and t-shirt, black jazz shoes
Acro
Body suit or fitted tank top, shorts or leggings, bare feet
