February 2020 eNews - Happy February!
Updated: May 3
February, the month of love…and we LOVE to dance! While it may only be February, recital will be here soon and we're pleased to let you know that dance recital information is now available in this enews and on our website. Please take a minute to review it and mark the information in your calendar. More details and notes will be sent home close to recital. 2020 is off to a warm start, but the warm and slushy weather is bringing a lot of dirt and sand into the building. We ask all dancers and parents to remove their outdoor footwear and place shoes and boots on the mats and racks provided before entering the office, hallway, change rooms, bathroom, or studio spaces. This will help keep our dance space (and the dancers shoes) clean and in good condition, as well as prevent the spread of dirt onto the beautiful costumes that are being sorted in the office. Thank you for your cooperation. Our Performance Team’s annual in-house competition Stars on Stage is coming up in March. More information is available in this enews. Stars on Stage is also a great volunteer opportunity for anyone looking for volunteer experience or just a fun event to get involved in. February is also I Love To Read Month. We want to see you sharing your love of reading and love of dance together. Post pictures on your social media (remember to tag us!) with your favorite dance books or reading in your favorite dance stretch...get creative so we can celebrate reading and dance together!

Shine 2020 is now two shows - June 13 and June 14 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre. Our studio has grown and our dancers are expanding their talents. As such, our new recital weekend will give our dancers a chance to Shine the their fullest on a professional show stage. See a list of classes/dances that will be in each show. We’ve also put together a recital handbook this year to help dancers of all ages have a seamless dance recital. Our recital handbook can be found here. We’ll be looking for volunteers to help at the shows. A sign-up sheet will be posted in May.
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Performance Team at the team's 3rd Annual Team Night Out Fundraiser. It was a fun night full of team spirit, prizes, and great food! Performance Team Dancers: remember to double check the calendar for your practice schedules. And don't forget about your exciting February workshop with Miss Intercontinental Canada, Courtney Mandock, on February 7th. We can't wait for her to help motivate and inspire you as you head into the competition season! Schedules should be in soon for the March Competitions (we hope!) We'll share them as soon as they come in.
Stars on Stage 2020
Maples Academy of Dance will be hosting the 2nd annual Stars on Stage Dance Competition on March 15, 2020 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre. This in-house competition is an opportunity for our competitive level dancers to perform and gain valuable feedback and experience early on in the competitive season. We’re excited to welcome Meagan Funk and Matthew Armett as our guest adjudicators for the day. Stay tuned to our website and social media for their full introductions in the coming weeks! Admission to Stars on Stage is $2 per person in advance (purchase passes from the studio office starting March 2nd) or $5 at the door on the day of. We’re also looking for volunteers to help out at the door, at the adjudicator’s table, and as ushers at Stars on Stage. If you’re interested in helping, please let the office know.
Recital costumes are almost all here - we're just waiting for one more shipment to arrive. Dancers will have the opportunity to try on their costumes when they arrive, however costumes will not go home until the spring, once all costumes are in and sorted. We know costume time is exciting, but please refrain from touching the costumes that have been sorted in the boxes in the office.
