Spring is coming! Time for a happy dance!
Hello spring! That warm spring sun that keeps peeking out, shines almost as bright as our hardworking dancers! March brings lots of excitement to Maples Academy of Dance. Our Performance Team kicks off their competition season, dances are progressing for recital, and our studio spirit week leads us into spring break at the end of the month. We’re looking forward to a fun March with everyone. Read on for all the latest details on recital, picture week, costumes, spirit week, and some fun volunteer opportunities!
Recital 2020
Shine 2020 is now two recital shows - June 13 and June 14 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre. Our studio has grown and our dancers are expanding their talents. As such, our new recital weekend will give our dancers a chance to Shine the their fullest on a professional show stage. For a list of classes/dances that will be in each show, please click here.
Costumes
Recital costumes have all arrived – YAY! Competitive dancers have already started to take their costumes home in anticipation of their first performances this season. All other dancers will take their costumes home following spring break. Please read your costume care instructions carefully. Costumes cannot be replaced if they are lost or damaged.
Dance Picture Week
Dance picture week is April 13-18. Image Makers will be set up in the studio to take class pictures during each dancer’s regular class time. Dancers are asked to arrive for class on picture day in their costume, with their hair and makeup done according to the instruction sheet that came attached to their costume. Pictures can be purchased by Cash or Cheque payable to Image Makers. Order forms will go home in advance of spring break. Orders must be turned in with payment on or before picture day. Late orders will not be placed. Each order includes a group and individual photo of your dancer.
Volunteer Opportunities
Maples Academy of Dance is excited to host the 2nd Annual Stars on Stage Dance Competition on March 15, 2020 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre. We’re looking for volunteers to help at the event in roles such as ushers, admission, adjudicator table, and backstage. There are multiple shifts throughout the day. If you, or any family or friends, are interested in helping, please let the office know. Thank you in advance! Volunteers are needed at our 10th annual SHINE Dance Recital. Roles include ushers, back stage supervisors, DVD sales, and dance runners (taking the dancers to stage to perform). Volunteering at Recital is a fun way to get involved and help all the MAD superstars shine. Sign up in the studio office today!
Studio Spirit Week
Show off you superstar spirit at this year’s Studio Spirit Week from March 23-28. All dancers who dress up for spirit week will get a ballot entry into our spirit week prize draw. Check out the posters in the studio for daily Spirit Week themes.
Performance Team
March kicks off the competitive dance season for our Performance Team. Cheer them on as they hit the stage. You can follow their success on our social media. Stars on Stage 2020
Maples Academy of Dance will be hosting the 2nd annual Stars on Stage Dance Competition on March 15, 2020 at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre. This in-house competition is an opportunity for our competitive level dancers to perform and gain valuable feedback and experience early on in the competitive season. We’re excited to welcome Meagan Funk and Matthew Armet as our guest adjudicators for the day. Stay tuned to our website and social media for their full introductions in the coming weeks! Admission to Stars on Stage is $2 per person in advance (purchase passes from the studio office starting March 2nd) or $5 at the door on the day of. Tickets can be purchased by cash only. We’re also looking for volunteers to help out at the door, at the adjudicator’s table, and as ushers at Stars on Stage. If you’re interested in helping, please let the office know.
